Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Airedale Airs Number 1. Moderate all day heathland, field, woodland and country lanes walk to the Hitching Stone, Slippery Ford, Grey Stones Hill and America culminating in the airy ridge walk from Lund's Tower to Wainman's Pinnacle. 8 miles, first 2 of which are on sketchy paths through tussocky heather. Pub call afterwards. Meet at the Stake Hill car park near Cowling. M65 to end and through Colne onto A6068 towards Keighley. 3.5 miles after Emmott Arms, Laneshaw Bridge turn right into Old Lane signed "Oakworth." Its a mile along this narrow lane with a sharp left half way and the car park is on the left near stone pinnacle. NGR SD985427.
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Airedale Airs Number 2. Moderate all day heathland, hill and field walk above Farnhill and Kildwick to the Sore Thumb and Silsden. Far reaching views and interesting architecture, returning along the canal towpath. 8 miles, with one gradual climb at first. Pub call possible en-route and teas and meals served at end. Meet in cul-de-sac road opposite White Lion hotel and parish church in Kildwick village. M65 to end and through Colne onto A6068 towards Keighley. Turn left at Glusburn Crosshills to major roundabout junction with A629 and take Kildwick Farnhill exit over little bridge into village. At White Lion and church turn left into cul-de-sac. Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Airdale Airs Number 3. Moderate hill, field, lanes and towpath walk to Carleton, Cononley, Low Bradley, Snaygill and Skipton. Plenty of interest to see. 10 miles, pub call en-route (The Bay Horse). Meet on Cavendish Road P&D (£4.50) car park in Skipton. Turn right off A59 onto A6069 and right again shortly after railway station, then left into cp. NGR SD987514. (The walk can equally well be done from the village of Carleton with free parking!)
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Baildon Hill. Relatively easy heathland, lanes and woodland walk over Baildon Hill to Shipley Glen and Gill Beck. 360 degree panorama followed by varied rural scenes. 6.5 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Hawksworth Road (B6151) car park at Baildon. A650 through Bingley keeping left at Shipley following signs for Leeds, (A657 and A6038). Fork left onto B6151 through Baildon keeping straight on at town centre roundabout and shortly after last houses car park is on right. NGR SE153404, nearby SatNav post code BD17.
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Bingley Alps. Moderate field, woodland, hill and lanes walk to Harden, St Ives Country Park, Lady Blantyre's Rock and the Druids Altar. Interesting and varied route culminating in aerial views over Bingley and Keighley. 8 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on the B6429 (Cullingworth Road) river bridge just outside Bingley centre near the old church and the White Horse pub. Turn off A650 at first roundabout signed to Harden and keep right on A6265 towards Bingley. The church, pub and bridge are on the right and fire station on the left. Limited roadside parking. Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Cow, Calf and Apostles. Moderate gritstone paths hill walk over Ilkley Moor to see the White Wells, the summit trig point with 360 degrees view, the Twelve Apostles Stone Circle and Cow and Calf Rocks. 9 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Darwin Gardens free car park in Ilkley. Follow signs into town centre and turn right up Wells Road. NGR SE118471.
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Enthusiasts Emmerdale Watch. Moderate all day field and woodlands trails walk to Eccup Reservoir and the Harewood Estate passing within good sight of the "Emmerdale Film set" binoculars essential. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Golden Acre Park main car park on the A660 at Bramhope between Otley and Leeds. NGR SE266417. (Optional resiting to shorten walk by driving to Alwoodley for roadside parking and more direct access to Eccup).
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale In search of the Big Blue Clock. Moderate all day Yorkshire Dales field and hill tracks walk over Haw Pike to Addingham and the Big Blue Clock! Returning along the beautiful River Wharfe. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Draughton village car park 3 miles from Skipton. Airedale and Lower Wharfedale March up the Marchup. Moderate hill, field and woodland walk over Windgate Nick and Ilkley Moor to the White Wells and Ilkley Wells. (Panoramic ridge walk). Returning along the Dalesway by the River Wharfe, Addingham and the pretty Marchup Beck. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Three By Five. Moderate all day field and green lanes walk to Micklethwaite, Sunny Dale, East Morton and Bingley Five Rise Locks. 8.5 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet in front of Bingley Parish Church beside B6265 in town centre (car parks nearby). Avoid town centre bypass (A650) as this misses the church and town centre. NGR SE105395.
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Tumbling Waters. Moderate hill, field and woodland walk through Glusburn and Sutton via numerous cascades and waterfalls to Steeton, returning along the River Aire and Leeds Liverpool canal. Varied scenery including quaint cottages and the unique Sutton Archway. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on cul-de-sac road with bus shelters left at St Andrew's church in Kildwick. From end of M65 go through Colne on A6068 past Laneshawbridge and Cowling. At Crosshills turn left to Kildwick roundabout and its straight across into village. NGR SE010459.
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Wharfedale Rocks and Trees. Moderate all day field, lanes and woodlands trails walk to Carlton, Chevin Forest Park and the Chevin. 9 miles, pub call afterwards (The Royalty). Meet on Surprise View car park off the minor road of York Gate. At Menston crossroads on A65 take the un-signed Buckle lane and fork right at Hare & Hounds pub, turn left at T junction and right at cul-de-sac for 1 mile to CP. NGR SE204441.
Airedale and Lower Wharfedale Wharfedale Wander. Moderate field and quiet lanes walk to Arthington, Staircase and Caley Crags. 8 miles, pub call en-route (the Wharfedale Inn). Meet on Bramhope village public car park with toilets. A65 Skipton to Ilkley continuing on A660 past Otley. After Pool Bank and A658 crossroads turn right at church up into village. Turn right at village cross and right again into car park. NGR SE248433.
Calderdale Blackstone Edge. Moderate all day hill walk up the Roman Road to Lydgate and Aiggin Stone then along the Edge to Robin Hood's Bed for extensive views. Crossing over and under the M62 motorway the return is via Windy Hill Edge and Tunshill Lane finishing by Hollingworth Lake. 9 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Hollingworth Lake Visitor and Information Centre car park off Rakewood Road. (Parking fee £2). NGR SD940152.
Calderdale Broad End of a Narrow Canal. Moderate woodland, urban trails and canal towpath walk partly along the Kirklees Way through Bradley Park and down into Huddersfield. Returning along the Broad Canal to its end in the River Calder. Far ranging views, enchanting woodland and interest all the way. 9 miles. Meet on Lower Quarry Road, Bradley, near Brighouse. M62 Junction 25 onto A644 signed Huddersfield. In one mile turn right at traffic lights into A62 Cooper Bridge Road, over river and turn right at filling station. NGR SE175206.
Calderdale Calder and Hebble Navigation. Moderate field, woodland, lanes and towpath walk to Elland and Brighouse Basin to see where canal meets river, then back through Cromwell Wood and over Southowram Hill (stunning views). Ending along the Hebble Trail and Halifax Branch canal. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet in Salterhebble picnic car park on the A6026 just before junction with A629. NGR SE095224.
Calderdale Calderdale's Hidden Gem.
Moderate field and byways walk to Shibden Hall, Northowram and Shibden Dale. Wide ranging vistas and dramatic parkland. 8 miles, pub call afterwards.
Meet on Shibden Hall main car park off A58 just beyond Halifax. Turn into narrow slip road on right before Shell petrol station. NGR SE108261. Health Warnings. Road signs and lane markings through Halifax are mesmerizing, stay alert! If trying out this walk yourself avoid the area of Ringby Lane and Swales Moor, its an industrial blot on the landscape deep in sludge! 
Calderdale Character of Calderdale. Moderate undulating field, lanes and hill walk via Upper Eastwood, Blackshaw Head, Colden Clough (numerous industrial relics) and along the Pennine Way to Stoodley Pike Peace Monument (1319ft). Returning down Lumbutts Clough. 10.5 miles, optional pub calls enroute (the Stubbing Wharf or Top Brink).  Meet on tunnel picnic area car park on the left of the A646 1.5 miles east of Todmorden on Hebden Bridge Road. Calderdale Charm of Calderdale. Moderate all day field, woodland, urban trails and canal towpath walk over the high level terrace of North Dean Wood with superb panoramic views to Elland and Salterhebble . 8 miles, pub call en-route (the Barge and Barrell, real ale paradise). Meet on the Moorings car park in the centre of Sowerby Bridge. A646 from Todmorden through Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd turning right onto A6139. Turn left at lights at bottom of hill and right into side street down to canal. NGR SE064237.
Calderdale Colne Valley. Moderate hill, field, canal tow-path and urban lanes and ginnels walk over to Merry Dale Clough, Rotcher, Slaithwaite and Rockingstone Hill. Brilliant panoramas culminating with a visit to the prominent Wholestone landmark overlooking the M62. 10 miles, pub call afterwards.  Meet on Scammonden Dam car park. M62 Junction 23, all way round roundabout to pick up A640 signed Rochdale. After 2 miles the M62 is crossed over and two pubs passed (the Lower Royal George and the Jack of Mitre) then either of the next two right turns lead to Scammonden. NGR SE055163.
Calderdale Going Up from the Summit! Relatively Easy afternoon canal, bridleway and hill tracks walk to Clough Alps and Shore. 6 miles with one gradual climb, pub call afterwards. Meet on large car park beside Slade Wood Mill business centre and Furniture Factory Shop off A6033 between Littleborough and the Summit pub. NGR SD946181.
Calderdale Light Hazzles Edge. Moderate peaty hill paths, stony tracks and canal towpath walk up to Warland Reservoir and then along the edge of Light Hazzles. Returning over Chelburn Moor to Summit and Warland. 6 miles, pub call en-route (The Summit) or afterwards (Wetherspoons White Hart in Todmorden). Meet on roadside near Bottomley Road on the left of Rochdale Road, Walsden near Todmorden, ¾ mile after Gordon Rigg's garden centre. Calderdale Nooks and Crannies. Moderate but hilly all day field and farm tracks walk over the Kirklees Lake District to Marsden Canal Locks, returning via Merry Dale and the Scammonden Tunnel! 11 miles, pub call en route. Meet on Booth Wood car park adjacent to dam beside the A672 going into Ripponden. Leave M62 at Junction 22 turning left for 3 miles. After passing Turnpike Inn on left car park is on right. Calderdale Ryburn Ramble. Moderate field, woodland and quiet lanes walk over Great Manshead Hill to Mill Bank and Ripponden to see the towering Ryburn and Baitings dams. 10 miles, pub call en-route at the Old Bridge Inn (reputably the oldest pub in Yorkshire). Meet on Baitings Reservoir free car park on the A58 two miles west of Ripponden. M62 Junction 21 via Hollingworth Lake and Littleborough or M62 Junction 22 via A672 and left at Ripponden. Calderdale Ryburn Revere. Moderate field, hill, rustic byways and dismantled railway walk over Norland Edge to Barkisland and Ripponden. After a sojourn in the oldest pub in Yorkshire returning alongside the River Ryburn and through the two ghostly Beeching cuttings. Extensive panoramas of Calderdale and Ryburndale. 9.5 miles, pub call en-route (The Old Bridge Inn). Meet on Sowerby Bridge Canal Wharf Centre car park (P&D although also a nearby free one) off the A58 in town centre. NGR SE064237.
Calderdale The Spade Trail. Moderate hill, lanes and moor tracks walk to Ramsden Clough, Trough Edge End (1,490ft), Limers Gate, The Astronomy Centre, Sourhall and Dobroyd. See how many spades, forks, rakes and brushes you can spot! 9 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet at Gauxholme near Todmorden parking on small car park on corner of Hollins Road or along roadside. Calderdale Up Country, Back in Time. Moderate all day field, woodland and quiet lanes walk to Luddenden Dean and Caty Well. A beautiful Yorkshire Valley rich in historic buildings and quaint byways. 8 miles, pub call en route (the Caty Well Inn) and afterwards, the White Lion at Mytholmroyd. Meet on Luddenden village car park with toilets. Take A646 through Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd. Turn left at Luddenden Foot by Triger Guns pub into Luddenden Lane, then half a mile to CP on right. NGR SE042257.
Calderdale Wessenden Wander. Moderate all day flagged and gritstone moor paths walk into Wessenden Clough using part of the Pennine Way. Stiff uphill pull near the end. 9.5 miles, pub call afterwards, The Waggon and Horses at Redbrook Reservoir. Meet in the Pennine Way car park on the right of the A62 3 miles from Delph going towards Marsden and Huddersfield. NGR SE018095.
Calderdale Whirlaw Wizard. Moderate to strenuous hill, field and country lanes walk via Pudsey Clough and Mount Cross to the Great Bride Stones and the Wizard Stone (sculptured wall corner post). Returning along Todmorden Edge (superb views). 9 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Daisy Bank car park in Cornholme. A646 from Burnley towards Todmorden through Cliviger, under railway bridge, slight right bend then car park is on left behind bus shelter, entrance in Daisy Hill Street. NGR SD905263.
Cheshire Alderley Edge. Moderate all day woodland, field and lanes walk along Alderley Edge towards Hare Hill then through Highlees Wood and along Hocker Lane visiting the Wizard's Well, Cave and Waterfall. 10 miles, pub call afterwards if one can be found. (The Wizard is a tea shop and restaurant but no pub in the vicinity). Meet on Wizard public car park one mile along B5087 Macclesfield Road out of Alderley Edge. Fork left off A34 just after railway station. NGR SJ859773.
Cheshire Bosley and Sutton. Moderate field, woodland, hill and canal towpath walk along the Cheshire Ring canal by Bosley Locks to Bosley Reservoir, Sutton Common (1,319 feet ASL), and Sutton Reservoir. Superb views to Jodrell Bank, Teggs Nose and Shutlingsloe. 11 miles, pub call afterwards (The Fools Nook). Meet at Bosley Locks canal bridge parking on roadside. Take A523 from Macclesfield towards Leek for 4 miles. Turn right into Bullgate Lane signed North Rode. NGR SJ905669.
Cheshire Canal Extravaganza Chapter One.
Moderate nature reserve and canal towpath walk through Moore and Wigg Island Nature Reserves closely encountering the Manchester Ship canal swing bridges and the Bridgewater Canal. 11 miles but practically all flat, pub call afterwards.
Meet on Moore Nature Reserve free car park at the end of Moore Lane. This is off the A56 Chester Road at Walton Hall. Nearest motorway junction 10 on M56 or approach through Warrington on A49. Turn off dual carriageway at Higher Walton traffic lights into Runcorn Road signed to Moore then turn right into Moore Lane at brown sign for nature reserve. Cheshire Cheshire Peaks. Moderate all day hill and field walk through Lyme Park to Sponds Hill (1345 feet ASL) and along the Gritstone Trail to Andrew's Knob and Bollington. Returning along the Macclesfield canal. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Middlewood Way car park in Shrigley Road, Higher Poynton. A6 forking right at Hazel Grove onto A523 for Macclesfield. At Poynton cross roads turn left along Park Lane and fork right into Coppice Road. Over bridge and turn right into car park. NGR SJ943827.
Cheshire Cheshire Chocolate Box.
Relatively easy fields, lanes and towpath walk from Tiverton to Bunbury. Taking in the staircase of locks at Beeston, Tilston and Bunbury. Such pretty scenes, such fun! 8 miles, pub call en-route, the Dysart Arms (beer garden).
Meet on lay-by at junction with Huxley Lane, at Tiverton on A49. M56 Junction 10 for A49 past Weaverham, Cuddington, Nunsmere and Tarporley. Cheshire Cheshire Treasure Chest. Easy towpath, dismantled railway and quiet lanes walk via the Trans Pennine Trail and Bridgewater Canal to Lymm, Lymm Dam, Spud Wood and Dunham Massey. So much to see in the water features, quaint brick and thatched cottages, boat yards and deer park. 12 miles total but easily split into two much shorter sections with a choice of starting points. Cheshire Cheshire Treasure Chest Part I. Easy towpath, dismantled railway and quiet lanes walk via the Trans Pennine Trail and Bridgewater Canal to Lymm, Thelwall, Lymm Dam and Spud Wood. 8 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Trail Ranger Station car park in Statham Avenue, Lymm. M6 Junction 20, first exit from slip road roundabout onto B5158 Cherry Lane signed Lymm. Turn left at A56 T junction following signs for village centre and immediate right onto A6144 signed village centre and Lymm Hotel. Turn left at mini roundabout and once over canal bridge turn left into Whitbarrow Road. Turn left at Lymm Hotel and car park is on right. Cheshire Dane Encounter.
Relatively easy country park, field, towpath and dismantled railway walk around Astbury Lake to Astbury Village and Congleton. See the two "swirly whirly" bridges and abundant wild life. 7.5 miles, pub call afterwards.
Meet on Astbury Mere Country Park free car park. M60 Junction 3 onto A34 past Alderley Edge. Follow signs to Congleton but do not turn into town centre. Keep on A34 towards Newcastle and follow brown signs for Little Moreton Hall. Just after Waggon & Horses pub and Jewson's yard turn left into Sandy Lane. Cheshire Detours in Delamere. Moderate forest and fields walk around the wild life pools and reedy swamps of the Delamere Forest including ascent of the local viewpoint Pale Heights with its Circle of Rocks. 8.5 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Barn Bridge Gates free car park near Hatchmere. M56 to Junction 12 for A56 into Frodsham. Turn left onto B5394 (B5152) towards Tarporley and Delamere and in 5 miles at Hatchmere turn right into Ashton Road. Follow this into the forest and the car park is on the left within a mile. Cheshire Hides and Flashes. Easy, woodlands and sandy cycle tracks walk through Marbury Country Park to Budworth Mere, Big Wood, Dairy House Meadows, Neumanns Flash, Carey Park and by the River Weaver to the Anderton canal barge lift. (£2.50 admission or views from outside). Returning along the Trent and Mersey canal and through the fairy glen of Hopyards Wood. 6 miles, pub call en-route (the Stanley Arms) and afterwards. Meet on Marbury Country Park main car park with information kiosk and toilets. (P&D £2). M56 Junction 10 for A559 past Antrobus, turn right through Comberbach following brown country park signs. Cheshire Historic Haunts. Easy paved and canal towpath walk into Chester city centre via the Shropshire Union canal. Walking tour takes in complete city walls, River Dee, city centre and Roman ampitheatre. 8 miles though can be made shorter by catching bus one way. Pub call afterwards. Meet on Boughton Heath Park and Ride (free). M56 then M53 but at Junction 12 ignore signs for Chester to right. Instead continue straight on A55 dual carriageway and take next junction onto A51 towards Chester. At next junction turn left onto A41. The park and ride is signed just through the next junction. Cheshire Not so Plain Cheshire. Relatively easy, field, lanes and byways walk by Redesmere to Capesthorne, Siddington and Northwood Farm on the Cheshire Plain. Great for bird life. 7.75 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Redesmere car park facing the big lake. M60 Junction 4 for A34 past Alderley Edge. 1 mile after entrance to Capesthorne Hall on right take left into Redesmere Lane. NGR SJ848713 (N53°14'20” W2°13'40”), near by SatNav post code SK11 9JU.
Cheshire Old Man went to Mow. Moderate field, woodland, lanes and towpath walk to Mow Cop Castle and The Old Man of Mow (ruined folly on hill top and natural but unique shaped rock), then back via the Macclesfield and Trent and Mersey canals (fascinating locks and bridges). 10.5 miles, pub call en-route. Meet in Kidsgrove on the A50, car park to be arranged as when visited in 2008 there were footpath and car park closures. Approx. NGR SJ844544.
Cheshire On the Edge.
Moderate hill and field tracks and dismantled railway walk through Biddulph Grange country park to the Troughstone then up Congleton Edge to Cheshire’s Close. Grand views over the plains to Jodrell Bank and the Derbyshire Dales. 8 miles, pub stop afterwards.
Meet on Biddulph Grange country park free car park. This is on Overton Road just off the A527 from Congleton. Look for brown signs. Pick up the A536 from Macclesfield turning left in Congleton or it can be approached via a network of lanes around Timbersbrook off the A54. Cheshire Poynton Perambulation. Relatively Easy, canal towpath, woodland, nature trail, country park, lakeside, riverside, field, dismantled railway and rustic lanes walk to Poynton Park and the outskirts of Bramhall. Returning alongside Norbury Brook. 11 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Jacksons' Brickworks car park at Middlewood near Poynton. Turn right off A6 before High Lane over level crossing and through Norbury Hollow or or take A523 from Hazel Grove and turn left at Poynton traffic lights and keep left at two forks. Either way follow brown signs to Jacksons' brick works. On OS maps it is called Ladybrook Valley Interest Trail! NGR SJ947844.
Cheshire Styalish Waters. Moderate riverside, woodland and heath walk through NT woodland following the River Bollin to Runway 2, Morley Green, Newgate Nature Reserve, Lindow Moss Lake, Lindow Common and The Carrs. Steep riverside steps up and down twice in early part of walk. 9.25 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Styal village car park or on immediate roadside if full. Moderate country park paths, field and lanes walk from Biddulph Grange past the Wicken Stones to Knypersley Reservoir and Greenway Bank Country Park. Returning along the Biddulph Valley Trail (dismantled railway) 8 miles, pub call afterwards.

Cheshire Tunnel to the Sky. Relatively Easy afternoon fields and lanes walk in the Bollin Valley and through the cavernous river tunnel under the airport runway. Cheshire View from the Cloud. Moderate field, woodland, lanes, dismantled railway and towpath walk onto the top of The Cloud and back along the Macclesfield Canal (Cheshire Ring Walk). 8 miles, pub call afterwards. Moderate hill and field tracks walk up through the ideallic village of Askham to Heughscar Hill and Moor Divock. Splendid views up Ullswater to the Helvellyn range and close inspection of two stone circles. Returning via Helton, Whale and Lowther Castle. 8 miles, pub call afterwards (choice of Punch Bowl or Queens Head, both in Askham village). 
Meet in front of Lowther Park church parking along roadside. M6 Junction 39 and onto A6 through Shap. Keep going until you pass through Hackthorpe then take any of the three left turns to Lowther and Askham (all go same place). Continue into the park, church is on right opposite the castle. Cumbria Beyond the Sands. Moderate field, hill, lanes and woodlands walk to Kents Bank, Allithwaite, Cartmel, Hampsfell (727ft) and Eggerslack Wood. 10 miles, two optional pub calls en route. Cumbria Black Secrets. Moderate Lake District field and fell walk to High Cross, Hawkshead, Black Beck, Black Crag and Tarn Hows, returning through the National Trust walled garden (1056 ft). 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Cumbria Mini Coast to Coast. Moderate cliff tops, field and lanes walk along the first few miles of Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk. Taking in St Bees Head and lighthouse, Saltom Bay and the village of Sandwith. 7.5 miles, tea shop afterwards. Meet on St Bees beach car park near hotel and cafe. Cumbria Mint - Sprint - Kent. Moderate field, lanes and riverside walk via the ruins of Kendal Castle to three rivers, the Mint, the Sprint and the Kent. Also the magical and hidden Spital waterfall. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Hayfell Avenue in Kendal. From M6 Junction 36 take A65 through Crookland and Endmoor. Pass Kendal Hospital and a superstore then at traffic lights fork right into housing estate. Continue past school entrance and park on roadside before old castle wall entrance to Wasdale Close. Cumbria Pottering and Gurnaling. Moderate field, fell and riverside walk through Strickland Roger to Potter Tarn and Gurnal Dubs via the Rivers Kent and Sprint. Cumbria Red Dell Horse Shoe. Cumbria Rusland Pool Part 1. Moderate all day riverside, woodland and open fell walk in the Southern Lake District from the pub at Rusland Pool to Bigland Tarn, Bigland Barrow (630ft) with it's observation tower (a wartime relic), Backbarrow and Haverthwaite Heights. 9 miles, pub call afterwards.  Meet in lane/layby formed by old road in front of and to the left of Rusland Pool pub. Cumbria Rusland Pool Part 2.  Moderate all day southern Lake District walk on woodland, farm, field and open fell paths starting from the Rusland Pool Inn, to Colton, Lowick Bridge (pub stop at Red Lion if time permits), the Crake Valley and Greenodd. Returning via the Cumbria Coastal Way. 9.5 miles. Meet in lane/layby formed by old road in front of and to the left of Rusland Pool pub. M6 Junction 36, turning left onto A590 then left at Brettargh Holt towards Ulerston/Barrow. At Newby Bridge continue straight on past Haverthwaite, and pub is shortly on the right. Cumbria Short but Sharp. Strenuous Lake District Mountain walk and rock scramble up the Glendermackin Clough and Sharp Edge onto Atkinson Pike and Blencathra twin summits. Cumbria Smallthwaite Band. Strenuous Lake District Mountain walk directly up the steep side of Middle Dodd from Kirkstone Pass then along the connecting ridge of Smallthwaite Band to Red Screes (2,541 feet). Tourist path descent to the Kirkstone Inn. 4 miles but seems like 7, pub call afterwards. Meet on Red Pit free car park, on the left of the A592 just over the summit of Kirkstone Pass. Cumbria The Bowness Alps.
Moderate hill, field and woodland walk over Biskey Howe, School Knott, Grandsire (818 feet asl), Cleabarrow, Undermillock Common, Brant Fell and Post Knott. 9 miles, no need to bring packed lunch - the excellent Troffers Dales Way Tea Shop at Hag End is en-route.
Meet on Chris's drive, Hill Crest, Biskey Howe Road, Bowness on Windermere. Turn off A591 into Windermere town and continue through on A5074 down towards Bowness. On hill going down to lake take sharp left up Biskey Howe Road just before Methodist Church. NGR SD408970.
Cumbria The Portal of Kentmere
Moderate field, fell and quiet lanes walk into the lower end of the Kentmere Valley. Two ascents but no steep hills or summits, just heavenly views. 8 miles, pub call afterwards.
Meet on old roadside at the western end of Staveley. A591 beyond Kendal towards Windermere. Turn right at second junction into Staveley and immediately left into spur of old road. NGR SD461984.
Cumbria The Two Burneys. Moderate to strenuous hill and woodland walk over Great Burney (980 ft asl) and Little Burney to the Giant's Grave. Returning via Long Rigg and Press Beck Vale. 8.5 miles, pub call afterwards.  Meet at Grizebeck on A5092, parking either in front of garage, up side of pub or in front of large barn on main road. Keep to left fork off Coniston Road at Lowick for 4 miles. NGR NY238851.
Cumbria The Worst Wainwright
Strenuous Lake District fell walk to Bowscale Fell, Bannerdale Crags, Mungrisdale Common and Souther Fell. 11 miles, pub call afterwards (The Mill Inn at Mungrisdale village). Mungrisdale Common is supposedly a boring wilderness that even Alfred Wainwright had few kind words for but actually this is a very pleasant walk.

Cumbria Twixt Winster and Lyth.
Moderate lanes, stony tracks and fell walk through Beck Head to Whitbarrow Scar. Returning through woodlands on the eastern flank and below White Scar. Vistas over the Winster Valley to the west and the Lyth Valley to the east. 7 miles, pub call afterwards.
Meet on roadside at Mill Side. M6 junction 36 onto A590 taking slip road at Brettargh Holt for A590 towards Newby Bridge. Shortly after A5074 junction turn right at sign for Mill Side and Beck Head. Cumbria Up the Creek Without a Paddle! Moderate field, woodland, hill and quiet lanes walk through Levens Deer Park and alongside the River Kent by the old gunpowder works to Scout Scar. 764 ft ASL with its unique mushroom shelter viewpoint. 12.5 miles, tea and scones afterwards at Ian and Christine's.  Meet at Newlands in Hutton Lane, Levens village. M6 Junction 36 onto A590 South Lakes. Take slip road at Brettargh Halt and left at roundabout following A590. Then first public road on left, the old A6 to Levens Hall. Turn right at T junction and keep right into Levens village Go past village shop on left keeping left when main lane forks right and over cross roads into Hutton Lane for 0.5 mile. NGR SD486888.
Cumbria Wainwright Chapter One. Strenuous Lake District Mountain walk over Arnison Crag. Birks and St. Sunday Crag to Grisedale Tarn and the Brothers' Parting Stone. Sample the delights of Alfred Wainwright's first chapter in his seven volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells. 9 miles. Meet on Patterdale P&D car park just after the White Lion Hotel. Cumbria Wainwright's Bowfell. Strenuous Lake District mountain walk up the Band and along the Climber's Traverse to Cambridge Crag and the Waterspout. Then the scramble beside the Great Flat Slab up to the summit, (2,960 feet). Returning via Ore Gap, Angle Tarn and Rosset Gill. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Cumbria Waters Under Helm
Moderate quiet lanes and field tracks walk up the River Kent through Levens Park to Natland and the Helm. Splendid 360 degree panorama all over Kendal. Returning via Halfpenny, Stainton and Hincaster seeing the present end of the Lancaster Canal at Stainton Aqueduct. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. 
Meet in front of Levens Hall parking along roadside nearby. M6 Junction 36 onto A590. Fork left at Brettargh Halt and left again onto old A6. NGR SD496851.
Cumbria Whitbarrow Scar. Moderate woodland tracks and limestone fells walk to Lord's Seat. Stunning views from scar over Winster and Lyth Valleys and Arnside estuary. 8.25 miles, pub call afterwards, the Gilpin Bridge. Meet by roadside at Mill Side. From M6 Junction 36 take A590 towards Barrow then second turning on the right after A5074 Lyth Valley sign where the dual carriageway ends. Over cattle grid and park in old road parallel to new one. Cumbria Winster Revisited. Moderate field, fell and country lanes walk through the beautiful Winster Valley. Last featured in August 2003 this is a revised and shortened route but still including all the highlights of Rulbuts Hill, Rosthwaite Heights, Ghyll Head, Birkett Houses, Ludderburn, Moor How Park and Birks Bridge. Optional pub call en-route (The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank). 10 miles, Pub call afterwards (The Damson Tree, serene outlook but no real ales!). Meet by roadside 1 mile after Damson Dene Hotel. Cumbria Wythburn Horse Shoe. Strenuous fell and woodland walk to the centre of the Lake District. Incorporating Steel Fell, Calf Crag, Greenup Edge and Ullscarf (2370 feet asl). 10 miles, pub call afterwards (The Badger Bar at Grasmere). Meet on Dob Gill P&D car park with toilets 1 mile up the west side of Thirlmere. A591 past Grasmere over Dunmail Raise and turn left onto road round back of lake. NGR NY315140.
Dark Peak Beaches in the Sky. Moderate to strenuous field, paved upland paths and sandy peat hags/groughs walk along part of the Pennine Way through the picturesque village of Grindsbrook Booth, Edale and through the splendid Grindsbrook Clough to the boulder scramble up onto Kinder Scout. Depending on the conditions the route continues over the summit plateau through meandering sandy floored peat hags to the Kinder Downfall before returning around the edge via Kinder Low trig point and Jacob's Ladder. 10 miles, pub call afterwards, the Lamb Inn on Hayfield Road, Chinley. If the shorter route is taken along the top of Kinder via the rocks of Crowden Tower, Wool Packs and Pym Chair then the route is only 8 miles. Meet on free car park between Barber Booth and Upper Booth. Extra spaces under viaduct and at track to Dalehead. Turn off A6 at Chapel-en-le-Frith onto A6187 Sheffield Road, (A625 on old maps) then after nearly 4 miles turn left up narrow road through woodland and over Mam Tor. Dark Peak Cannon and Cawthorne. Moderate field, woodland and lanes walk into Cawthorne village and through the parklands and gardens of Cannon Hall, then though Deffer Wood to Pool Hill before looping back via Denby Hall, Cuckold and Tanyard. 9 miles, pub call afterwards. Dark Peak Caves and Peaks. Moderate fell, field and country lanes walk to Treak Cliff, Long Cliff, Cave Dale, Castleton, Lose Hill, Hollin's Cross and Mam Tor. Passing all the caves of Blue John, Treak Cliff, Speedwell and Peak Cavern. 9 miles, pub call afterwards (at Sparrowpit).  Meet on Mam Tor P&D (£3) car park on the A625 over Rushup Edge. Dark Peak Combing Round the Bend. Moderate field, hill and lanes walk along Combs Edge to Round the Bend and the Goyt Valley. Some of England's finest green hill and valley scenery overlooking Combs Reservoir, then Buxton and later Errwood and Fernilee Reservoirs. 8.5 miles, pub call afterwards (the Bee Hive Inn, Combs village). Meet on Rye Flatt Farm car park on the Doveholes Road out of Combs. A6 to Whaley Bridge and through town centre. Turn left at traffic lights onto B5470 Chapel Road for 3 miles then turn right just after Combs Reservoir down lane into village. Bear left at the Bee Hive Inn to reach car park. NGR SK045782.
Dark Peak Dale Dyke. Moderate fields, woodland, waterside and fellside walk to High Bradfield, Agden Reservoir, Dale Dyke Reservoir and Sugworth Tower (Boots Folly). Great views from the hill top over Strines Reservoir. Dale Dyke was the scene of great devastation in March 1864 when the newly built dam collapsed. The ensuing flood swept away 15 bridges and killed 238 folk! 8 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Low Bradfield car park adjacent to cricket ground accessed off Fair House Lane at "P" sign. A57 over Snake Pass staying straight on A57 at Ladybower. At top of hill take left turn signed to Strines Moor and then right turn signed to Ughill and Dungworth. Dark Peak Dambusters Trail : Part Three. Moderate all day Peak District reservoir and ridge walk to Ladybower, Yorkshire Bridge and Win Hill, one steep climb half-way (900 feet). Return along the Roman Road with panoramic views over the Hope and Edale valleys and visiting the Four Winds boundary stone. 9 miles, beer garden call en-route if fine. Meet at Hagg Farm lay-by on the right of the A57 Snake Pass Road 4 miles beyond the Snake Inn. M67 to end, through Mottram (beware of speed cameras) and through Glossop centre. NGR SK163886.
Dark Peak Edale Alps. Moderate afternoon Derbyshire Dales field and hill tracks walk over Rushup Edge and down to Barber Booth. Then a gradual re-ascent to Hollins Cross before returning along the spectacular Mam Tor ridge. 7 miles, pub call afterwards. Dark Peak Etherow and Werneth Low. Moderate hill, woodland and field walk around the Lower Etherow Valley through Erncroft Wood, over Chisworth Hill to Tom Wood and Lymefield Riverside Relics Park. Returning through Back Wood and over Werneth Low country park. 10 miles, pub call afterwards (The Andrew Inn). Meet on Etherow Country Park Visitor Centre P&D car park (Information Centre and toilets) at Compstall Bridge, Marple near Stockport. M60 Junction 25 keeping right at roundabout and left at T junction through Bredbury. After superstore turn right at lights into Lower Bents Lane and straight on at next lights through Romiley (B6104) turning left at bottom of hill into George Street. NGR SJ966908.
Dark Peak Ewdendale Delight. Moderate hill, field and byeways walk over Whitewell Moor to Ewden Bridge and Broomhead Reservoir. Returning via Bolsterstone village and the fringes of Stocksbridge. 9 miles, pub call afterwards. Do not presume this is along way away, its just 32 miles from Manchester!! Meet on old cul-de-sac road near Underbank Reservoir dam. From end of M67 at Mottram take A628 over Woodhead Pass. At Langsett turn right onto A616 and after 4 miles turn right after Underbank Reservoir and right again into old road. NGR SK254994.
Dark Peak First of the Summer Wine. Moderate but hilly all day hill, riverside, sandy trails and urban lanes walk around Paris and Hole Bottom to Hepworth and over Meal Hill and the Mount (vast panorama) to Snowgate. Returning via Fulstone, Wooldale and the Surprise View overlooking Holmfirth. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Dark Peak Last of the Summer Wine. Moderate all day hill, field, woodland and reservoir walk to Yateholme Reservoir complex, Snailsden Edge, Hades and Elysium. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Digley Reservoir car park near Holmbridge.  Take A635 from Oldham over Saddleworth Moor turning right at the large stone polo mint (National Park marker stone) into Acres Lane and right again at Green Gate Road. Dark Peak Longdendale Lakeland. Moderate all day reservoir side and field walk around Bottoms Reservoir, Valehouse Reservoir and Rhodeswood Reservoir to Tintwistle. Then up the hill to Arnfield for open views and back through Swallows Wood Nature Reserve. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Longdendale Trail car park in Padfield, (just beyond Hadfield railway station). M67 to end and through Mottram lights, then keep right at Hollingworth War Memorial on A57 to Glossop. Dark Peak Meet the Don.
Moderate, field, lanes and trails walk using part of the Trans Pennine Trail (dismantled railway) to Hoylandswaine and Thurlstone via a circuit of Scout Dike Reservoir. A good introduction to the valley of the River Don. 9 miles, pub call afterwards.

Dark Peak Parade along the Edge. Moderate fell, field and country lanes walk along Stanage Edge visiting Little John's Grave, North Lees mansion (Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre), High Neb (1502 feet asl), Higger Tor, the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark, Over Owler Tor and Mothercap rock. 10 miles, pub call afterwards (the Scotsman's Pack in Hathersage).  Meeting point to be decided but first option is main P&D car park in Hathersage on A6187. Dark Peak Park to Peak. Moderate deer reserve, hill, field, towpath and country lanes walk to the Cage, Furness Vale and the end of the Peak Forest Canal at Whaley Bridge. Dark Peak Romiley Circular. Moderate afternoon canal towpath, field, woodland and parklands walk to Romiley, Greave, Compstall, Brabyns Park, Marple Locks and the Aqueduct. The Peak Forest Canal is very picturesque with a staircase of tranquil lock pools leading to the two hundred foot Marple Aqueduct soaring over the River Goyt. 8 miles, pub call afterwards, the Spread Eagle at Bredbury Green. Dark Peak Shelf Moor Wrecks
Moderate to strenuous moorland walk to three 1940's airplane wrecks on the hills above Glossop. Also visiting the Shelf Stones and Hern Stones then returning via the Roman Road of Doctor's Gate. 10 miles, pub call afterwards.

Dark Peak Taming the Peat Bogs. Moderate peat moor and flagged tracks walk up the valley of Black Ashop Clough to Mill Hill and Featherbed Moss. Meet on Birchen Clough Bridge car park on the left of the A57 Snake Pass Road just before the Snake Pass Inn. Dark Peak To Hades and Back. Moderate to strenuous field, woodland and moor walk around Digley Reservoir to Holme, then through the Yateholme reservoir complex into Ramsden Clough and climbing out onto the broad flat top of Snailsden Edge (1,560 feet ASL). Returning via Hades, Elysium and Holmbridge. 10.5 miles, pub call afterwards (The Huntsman at Harden Hill). Meet on Digley reservoir car park near Holmbridge. Take A669 from Oldham through Lees, Grotton and Grasscroft, then turn sharp right over railway bridge just before Uppermill to pick up A635 Holmfirth Road. Dark Peak The Meltham Way. Moderate lanes, aqueduct and woodland walk along the winding conduit to Blackmoorfoot Reservoir. See the gathering waters grow from a stagnant ditch into a full river. Dark Peak Tramway to Heaven. Moderate byways and field walk along the Bugsworth dismantled tramway to the double viaduct and picturesque church grounds of Chapel Milton before delving into Chapel-en-le-Frith for en-route pub stop. Then via Combs and Toddbrook reservoirs back to more pubs in Whaley Bridge! 11 miles. Meet on Whaley Bridge free car park. Dark Peak Treasures of the Don Valley.
Moderate field tracks, quiet lanes and dismantled railway walk to Romticle Viaduct, Thurgoland Tunnels and Finkle Street. Contrasting scenery either side of the hill. One side wide views to the east the other deeply wooded. 7 miles, pub call afterwards.

Dark Peak Up the Downfall. Strenuous gritstone paths hill walk onto the western edge of Kinder Scout via Mermaid's Pool and River Kinder. Many boulder scrambles and river crossings in the upper reaches of the gorge with a final challenging climb up the Downfall cliffs! Then its a stroll in the park to the Trig Point, Edale Rocks, South Head and Mount Famine. 10 miles, pub call afterwards. Dark Peak Whole of the Summer Wine. Moderate but long and hilly all day sandy trails and woodland walk through the Holme Valley. Beginning in the beautiful Yateholme Reservoir complex then over the hills by Elysium and Hades and down the long fairy grotto of Hepworth Glen with its amazing amber water. Returning via the Surprise View overlooking Holmfirth and the riverside trail. 13 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Ramsden Reservoir car park at the end of the tarmac road. Deeside and North Wales Chirk Canter. Relatively Easy all day farmland, lanes, woodland and canalside walk over to the lower Ceiriog Valley and Pentre Wood. Returning along the Llangollen Branch Canal crossing two stupendous 100 foot aqueducts and through two thrilling tunnels (torches not essential but advisable for the nervous)! 10 miles, optional pub call en-route (The Bridge at Chirk). Meet at Aqueduct car park behind Telford Inn, Trevor near Llangollen. From M56 Junction 15 take M53 south which becomes the A55 dual carriageway and left onto A483 past Wrexham. At Ruabon turn right onto the A539 towards Llangollen. After 2 miles, pass the Duke of Wellington on the right and in 200 yards take next left into Station Road signed Froncysyllte (B5434). Deeside and North Wales Clwydian Contours. Moderate field and hill walk on the western slopes of the Clwydian Range to Moel Llys-y-coed, Moel Dywyll and Moel Fammau. 10 miles, pub call afterwards (The Rainbow at Gwern-y-mynydd or Miners Arms at Maeshafn - We Three Loggerheads poor ales though good food).  Meet on second P&D car park (£1) in Clwyd Forest. Deeside and North Wales Eglwyseg Limestone Alps. Moderate canal towpath, field and hill walk into Llangollen then up the hill to the ruins of Castell Dinas Bran for lunch and viewpoint before striking out along the Panorama Walk to Eglwyseg Mountain. Returning via Offa's Dyke path (exquisite views) and by the ruins of Valle Crucis Abbey. 10 miles, pub call afterwards (either the Bridgetown Inn or the Corn Mill).  Meet on Llantysilio free car park with toilets. M56 to Junction 15 then M53 and A483 ring road around Chester. Turn left onto A483 past Wrexham to Ruabon where you turn right onto the A539 for Llangollen. Stay on this road through Llangollen where it turns into the A542 but after 2 miles fork left along B5103 towards Corwen. In ½ mile fork right and the car park is on left. NGR SJ198432

Moderate to strenuous field, fell, woodland, quiet lanes and riverside trails walk from Loggerheads Country Park to Maeshafn village and Bryn Alyn (1322ft). Forest of Bowland Bleasdale Crescent. Moderate to strenuous fell, field, peat hags and country lanes walk around the crescent shaped ridge of Parlick, Fair Snape Fell, Fiendsdale Head and Hazelhurst Fell. Returning past Bleasdale Tower and Church. 11 miles, 1673ft asl, pub call afterwards. Meet in lane leading to Fell Foot. Forest of Bowland Brock and Calder. Moderate field, lanes and riverside walk by the River Brock to Bleasdale and then over to Calder Vale. Returning via Cobble Hey and Walmsley Bridge. 11.5 miles, tea room en-route. Rather farmy so expect muck spreading and slurrymires!!  Meet on Brock Valley Picnic Site and Nature Trail car park at Higher Brock Bridge. A6 through Broughton and Bilsborrow and past the new Barton Grange marina. Turn right into New Lane at Brock by Esso filling station. Over motorway and fork right then keep left signed Chipping. Forest of Bowland Clougha and Clough. Moderate field, fell, lanes, peaty and stony tracks walk over Clougha Pike into the hidden away Littledale with its two lost chapels! Forest of Bowland High Hindburn. Moderate field and lanes walk around the Higher Hindburn Valley as far as Thrushgill and Lowgill. Splendid panorama of Ingleborough and its satellites. 8 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on the roadside near Helks Bank Farm on the fell road on the western side of the valley. This hard standing lay-by is virtually the only parking spot in the area. Turn right off the A683 at Hornby following signs to Wray. Turn right onto Main Street through village centre and over river bridge. Turn right opposite the car park up steep hill and its 3 miles to parking spot. Forest of Bowland Nether Wyresdale. Howgills and North Pennines Borrowing the Lune. Moderate fell and riverside walk ascending Jeffrey's Mount, Casterfell Hill, and Belt Howe (1,339 ft high). These are Howgills on the west side of the M6 and afford splendid views over the Tebay Lune Gorge and into Borrowdale. Returning beside the spirited Borrow Beck and the white-water River Lune. 8 miles, pub call afterwards (The Cross Keys at Tebay). Moderate to strenuous beckside and ferny lanes walk up Uldale to view the hidden waterfalls where Stephen and his expensive camera fell in the water. Howgills and North Pennines Up Eden Down Ure Way. Moderate to strenuous all day fell walk to Grisedale, Hellgill Force (spectacular waterfall), and Abbotside along Lady Anne's High Way. Hell Gill is a narrow and deep rock canyon through which the infant River Eden flows within a short distance of the source of the River Ure which runs the opposite way down Wensleydale. 9 miles, pub call afterwards (The Moorcock Inn). Moderate woodland, field and coastal walk all around the environs of Silverdale touching Scout Wood, Eaves Wood, The Pepperpot, The Cove, Wood Well, Gibraltar, Jack Scout and Jenny Brown's Point with it's Saltpot! 6.25 miles, choice of pub or teashop afterwards. Meet at Quaker's Stang (bird watch car park). Leave A6 at Carnforth following signs for Silverdale through Warton. Just after Crag Foot (road junction) turn left into dirt track. Ribble Valley In Search of the Treacle Mines. Saddleworth Heart of Saddleworth. Moderate hill and country lanes walk to the Diggle Portal of the Standedge Canal Tunnel, Pots and Pans Obelisk and Alderman's Hill. Then a steep descent to Dovestones Reservoir to pick up the Oldham Way terraced track over to Mossley before returning along the canal towpath through Uppermill. 10 miles, Pub call afterwards. Moderate afternoon gritstone tracks walk to the Dinner Stone, Pule Hill, Marsden and Tunnel End taking the Pennine Way over Close Moss and the P.H. This is the A627. After one kilometre look for the thatched Newton Hall then turn left into Dunkirk Lane. This becomes a leafy rough track leading over a canal bridge. South Pennines Beating Bonny Barlic. Moderate field, quiet lanes and canal towpath walk Beating the Bounds of Barnoldswick. 9 miles, pub call near end, the Anchor at Salterforth. Meet at Letcliff Country Park on the B6251 at Barnoldswick. Turn off A56 at Foulridge, or Salterforth or Barnoldswick. South Pennines Bold Boulsworth. South Pennines Bonnie Lad Law of Boulsworth. Moderate field and hill walk around the Trawden Forest visiting the picturesque old bridge over Trawden Brook, Lumb Falls, Gilford Clough, Boulsworth Hill with its panoramic summit of Lad Law and the quaint village of Wycoller. 8 miles but with optional short extension to Foster's Leap and the Atom Panopticon. Tea shop and ice creams near end. Meet on Wycoller free car park. M65 to end and through Colne on A6068. On roundabout after the Morris Dancers pub take B6520 off to the right signed Trawden and Wycoller. Follow brown signs to country park or cut up the steep winding road through Winewall. Moderate field and stony tracks walk via Leeshaw, Stones Edge and Leeming Reservoir to Oxenhope seeing a new angle on the Worth Valley. 7 miles, pub call afterwards.
Meet on Tom Stell's Seat free car park right at the southern corner of Penistone Hill country park. M65 to end and through Colne onto A6068 Keighley Road. Moderate all day hill and field walk on sandy gritstone paths and flagged paths to Penistone Hill, Harbour Hole, Dick Delf Hill, Top Withins and Bronte Falls with stunning 360 degree panoramas. 9 miles, tea shop at end.  Meet on Ponden Mill car park 2 miles west of Haworth on the road from Colne. Turn off A6068 at Laneshaw Bridge for 5 miles passing Watersheddles Reservoir and Ponden Reservoir. South Pennines Calderdale Lake District. Moderate all day reservoir and moorland paths walk around Widdop and Gorple Reservoirs via Raistrick Greave, Reaps Edge, Standing Stone Hill and Cludders Slack. 8.5 miles, with two short trackless sections. South Pennines Cludders.    Moderate stony tracks and reservoir walk to The Cludders Stones, Widdop Reservoir and Gorple Lower Reservoir. Turn left at lights up Halifax Road. Straight through first cross roads turning right at T junction. Turn left at Haggate cross roads (Sun Inn). South Pennines Cowm and Cowclough. Moderate reservoir side and stone tramroads walk around Cowm Reservoir and Spring Mill Reservoir passing the scenic location of the Cowclough hamlet ruins and through Fern Isle Clough. 7 miles, pub call afterwards. Anyone exploring this walk themselves are ernestly urged to avoid the pathless tussocky boggy wilderness of Walstead Clough and the extensive re-opened Britannia Quarries which have destroyed the right of way east of Jackson's Moor! Meet on Cowm Reservoir lower car park. Turn off A671 in the centre of Whitworth into Tong Lane and keep straight on at crossroads veering right up Tong End then forking left at last house into water board road past woodland burial ground. South Pennines Doddle to Horrodiddle.
Relatively Easy field tracks and woodland walk up Crimsworth Dean via the Old Road to Grain Water Bridge. Then around Shackleton Knoll to Horodiddle and Walshaw before following the river (Hebden Water) down through Hardcastle Crags. 7 miles, pub call afterwards.

Easy all day canal tow-path walk from Gannow to Barrowford entirely on the canal side passing Burnley Weavers Triangle, The Straight Mile, Queens Park, Barden Mill, Tunstill Mill, Boundary Mill and Barrowford Locks and Reservoir. 9 miles linear, pub call afterwards.  Meet in Barrowford Heritage Centre car park to arrange shuttle to start of walk. Easy urban canal towpath walk through Altham, Clayton-le-Moors and Church to the half-way point marker on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. 7 miles, pub call afterwards, the Hyndburn Bridge. Meet by roadside at Woodlands, Clayton-le-Moors. From M65 Junction 7 follow Clitheroe signs to A678 T junction. Turn right by Dunkenhalgh Hotel/Junction 7 Business Park and left at Hare and Hounds Traffic lights on A680 (Whalley Road). West Pennine Moors Roaming in the Gloaming. Moderate Pennine hills field and muddy lanes walk to the Halo Panopticon at Top of Slate, Haslingden via Cribden, Gin Clough and Goodshaw Fold. White Peak A Look Round Lamaload
Moderate field and fell walk around Lamaload Reservoir to Cook Hill, Saltersford, Pym Chair, Cats Tor and Shining Tor (1850 ft high). 8.5 miles, pub call afterwards. 
Meet on Lamaload Reservoir car park. The B5470 runs from Whaley Bridge to Macclesfield. Come from either end but a mile north east of Rainow turn into Pike Road or Smith Lane, both lead into Ewrin Lane. Turn right into Hooleyhey Lane and the car park is on the right behind trees. NGR SJ975753. 
White Peak Bakewell Tart. Moderate field, lanes and dismantled railway walk to Bakewell town with time to visit the pudding shops before lunch by the tranquil River Wye. Returning along the Monsal Trail with a glimpse at the ornate Thornbridge Hall. 9 miles, pub call afterwards (The Monsal Head). Meet in front of All Saints Church, Ashford in the Water parking on roadside. Take A6 from Buxton towards Bakewell for 10 miles or A623 from Chapel-en-le-Frith for 9 miles turning right onto B6465 through Wardlow and Monsal Head. White Peak Beauty and the Beast. Moderate undulating hill and dale walk to Bretton, Abney and Sir William's Hill. See all the sights of the fascinating plague village and its attractive surroundings. Moderate gritstone edge, woodlands, field and riverside paths walk through Yarncliff Wood and Hay Wood onto Froggat Edge and Curbar Edge for exquisite panoramas before descending to the River Derwent which winds past the pretty villages of Curbar, Froggat and Grindleford. 9 miles, tea shop at end (if open) pub call afterwards (The Maynard Hotel, Nether Padley). Meet at Grindleford railway station parking in approach road accessed off B6521 at Nether Padley just above Maynard Hotel. White Peak Greasing the Big End. Moderate field, quiet lanes and dismantled railway walk through Greasley Hollow and up onto Minn End. Moderate country park, hill, woodland and field walk through Grin Low Woods to Solomon's Temple and then over Leap Edge and along the full length of Axe Edge (1807 feet asl) for vast vistas. 9 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Buxton Country Park car park (P&D for Poole's Cavern). Follow brown signs from either A53 Leek Road or A515 Ashbourne Road. White Peak Limestone Legends. Moderate field, crags and quiet lanes walk from Youlgreave along the Limestone Way to Robin Hood's Stride, Birchover, Stanton Moor, Nine Ladies Stone Circle and Stanton with serene green vales, craggy limestone outcrops and distant views towards Matlock. 9 miles, pub call or YHA tea room afterwards. Meet in front of the school in Youlgreave village parking on roadside. NGR SK212644. If the place is busy parking is very difficult and the walk may have to start from the car park at the far western end of the village adding an extra mile to the walk. NGR SK205640. Youlgreave is best accessed off the A515 south east out of Buxton turning left and then right at Parsley Hay 2 miles after the Monyash turning. Take care in Buxton, picking up the A515 can be confusing ending up on the A6 to Bakewell!!
White Peak Magpie and Cowslip. Moderate woodland, riverside, field and limestone dales walk by the River Wye to Sheldon, Magpie Mine and Deep Dale. Old lead mining buildings and a nature reserve famed for cowslips. 7 miles, pub call afterwards.  Meet on White Lodge P&D car park on the right of the A6 Buxton to Bakewell Road. White Peak Meander around Macclesfield Forest.
Moderate hill and forest walk around the higher terraces of the Macclesfield Forest. Alternately dipping into sylvan glades and emerging into the open with panoramic vistas. Visiting four reservoirs, Nessit Hill, St Stephen's Chapel, Tegg's Nose Country Park and the curiosity of the Library in the Landscape. Pub call afterwards (Leathers Smithy).
Meet on road side at Bottoms Reservoir, Langley. A523 through Macclesfield turning left onto Byron's Lane signed to Langley and Wincle. Pass the Old Kings Head on the left, through a short tunnel and then take next fork left into Jarman. At Church House pub keep left into Langley Road. White Peak Midland Railway Walk No1. Moderate field tracks, woodland and dismantled railway walk to Priestcliffe, through High Dale, along the terraces above Taddington Dale and Monsal Dale to Monsal Head. Then via Little Longstone onto the Monsal Trail and through three long tunnels with superb views over Cressbrook, Water-cum-Jolly Dale and Litton Mill. A6 out of Buxton towards Bakewell for 4.5 miles before branching left on B6049 and in 1.5 miles turn left at brown sign up to station. Moderate field, hill, and lanes walk from the Cathedral Town of Tideswell to Miller's Dale and Cressbrook Dale. Spectacular high level traverse of Water-come-Jolly Dale then returning over Litton Edge. 9 miles, pub call afterwards.
Meet in front of St John the Baptist Church in Tideswell, parking along main street and/or opposite Catholic church. A6 Whaley Bridge and Chapel-en-le-Frith bypass keeping left at roundabout onto A623 towards Chesterfield. White Peak Three Shires. Moderate field and hill tracks walk across the three counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire to the charming beauty spot of Three Shire Heads and Panniers Pool. Returning via Gradbach Mill and Wildboarclough. 8 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Clough House car park in Wildboarclough. A523 to Macclesfield and through roundabouts on Silk Road. Just before railway station turn left onto A537 Buxton Road. After 4 miles turn right where signed Wildboarclough and when road bends left take right fork again signed Wildboarclough. Yorkshire Dales A Vanishing River. Moderate fell walk up the valley of Leck Beck passing the resurgence of the lusty torrent! Then up the dry valley of Leck Beck Head and Ease Gill until standing before the amazing plug hole of Cow Dubs where the main stream sinks underground into the longest cave system in Britain. 9 miles, pub call afterwards.  Meet on Leck church honesty box car park. Yorkshire Dales Craven Havens. Moderate field, lanes and hilltracks walk to Pinhaw Beacon and Elslack Reservoir. Wide panorama from the summit and tranquil waters in the forest. Meet on temporary car park opposite the Red Lion in Red Lion Street Upper Earby. M65 to end and along Vivary Way through Colne. Turn left at lights onto A56 to Earby bearing right at Kelbrook Roundabout. Bear right in town centre following signs for Youth Hostel, fork left at Stony Bank Road. Then via Bunton Smelting Mill over the Hushes to Old Gang Smelting Mill with its 60 stone pillars. Returning over the trackless expanse of Slade Head grouse moor. Yorkshire Dales Simple Simon's Seat. Moderate Yorkshire Dales hill walk up to Simon's Seat and down the beautiful Valley of Desolation (named after the desolation wreaked by a great storm in 1836). Visiting Dicken Falls and Posforth Falls (fabulous waterfalls) and then returning via the Strid, optional route either side of the River Wharfe. 8 miles, pub call afterwards (The Bull at Broughton on the A59).  Meet on the Strid car park (P&D with toilets). Yorkshire Dales Studley Royal and Fountains.
Moderate country park walk into Fountains Abbey. Starting with a farm lane leading into wild woodland which gradually softens through Seven Bridges Valley until the surprise view of The Lake and Deer Park. Entry to Fountains Abbey is £8.50 but an essential part of this experience. Through the Water Gardens to the Serpentine Tunnel which leads to the Octagon Tower and Temple viewpoints. Along the riverside to the majestic ruins, Old Mill and Hall. Afterwards passing by St Mary's Church and the Obelisk onto the long avenue out to the picturesque hamlet of Studley Roger. 9 miles, pub call afterwards (The Nelson Inn on the A59 at Hampsthwaite).
Meet on Hell Wath playing fields car park. A59 over Blubberhouses turning left through Killinghall on B6161 and A61. Continue past Ripley and Wormald Green and at first Ripon roundabout leave A61 keeping straight on along Harrogate Road. After passing Morrisons look for left turn into Lead Lane. Yorkshire Dales The Real Attermire Scar.
Moderate to strenuous field and lanes walk with some mild rock scrambling onto the summits of Warrendale Knots and Attermire Scar. Initial steep ascent on grass path. The usual route in these parts sticks to the popular paths below the crags but this one takes you onto their tops for great views. 7 miles, 1,650 feet of ascent, pub call afterwards (The Falcon Manor Hotel).

Yorkshire Dales Twisleton Sentinels. Moderate Yorkshire Dales fell, field and quiet lanes walk along Twisleton Scars and the Roman Road past the numerous gaunt cairns lining the limestone edge. 8.3 miles, pub call afterwards (The Hill Inn at Chapel-le-Dale). Meet at Twiselton Dale House (farm parking). A65 to Ingleton then along the narrow Oddie's Lane (Roman Road) accessed either from riverside in Ingleton or it's other end at Chapel-le-Dale Church. Yorkshire Dales Upper Airs. Moderate all day riverside and field walk via the Pennine Way to Haw Crag, Airton and Kirby Malham. 9 miles. Meet in hamlet of Bell Busk one mile off the A65 between Hellifield and Gargrave. Turn left 0.5 miles after Coniston Lake. NGR SD902567.
Yorkshire Dales Upper Wharfedale. Moderate to strenuous hill, field and riverside walk to Hubberholme, Cray, Buckden Pike, Knuckle Bone and Starbotton. 10.5 miles, pub call afterwards. Meet on Buckden P&D car park (£3.20). Turn off A59 at Skipton on Grassington Road B6160 for 10 miles up valley to village of Buckden. NGR SD942773.
Yorkshire Dales Where the Ribble is Young. Moderate field, fell and rough lanes walk into the land where the River Ribble is born. From Selside to High Birkwith, Old Ing, Calf Holes, Nether Lodge and God's Bridge. Meet the Ribble only 3 miles from its beginning where it is joined by the sprightly Coppy Gill and gaze in awe as Brow Gill plunges 35 foot into Calf Holes reminiscent of Gaping Ghyll. 7.25 miles, pub call afterwards (the Helwith Bridge Hotel).  Meet in Alum Pot Lane at Selside on the B6479 north of Horton-in-Ribblesdale. It is formed by Gayle Beck flowing through Thorns Gill when it is joined by Blind Beck.
Yorkshire Dales Winter Waters. Moderate all day field and country lanes walk by the glinting becks of Flasby, Winterburn and Hetton and around Winterburn Reservoir. 9.5 miles, pub call afterwards.  Meet on Rylstone village lay-by on the left of the B6265 just after village pond. NGR SD969588.
Yorkshire Dales Yarnbury Lead Mines. Moderate Yorkshire Dales field and riverside walk to Linton Falls, Hebden and Yarnbury.
